"Being connected" sometimes gets overhyped, and as a result, it's value can be underestimated. Communication and Networking

Building and maintaining strong networks is essential to any career. I employ a number of different tools to establish new relationships and maintain strong client and candidate networks, including IM and social media. While I maintain accounts in most major services, I focus my efforts on a few key tools that I find suit my needs.

Promotion

By promoting your personal brand, you establish credibility amongst your peers, market community and potential employers. While there are a number of ways to promote a personal brand, I've found that blogging can be a very effective tool for demonstrating thought leadership, workshopping new ideas with others, and promoting your accomplishments. Of course, having the right promotional collateral, such as resumes and presentations, is important too.

Research

My research tools are wide and varied, from candidate sourcing tools to sites for practice benchmarking and professional development. And like any set of tools, It's always important to make sure you have the latest and right ones. The set of professional resources are primarily for researching best practices and sharing new concepts on various topics.
